New Deal

A range of government-funded programmes brought in at the end of the '90s, aimed at the longer term unemployed. The New Deals in this category are NDYP, ND25+, ND for Musicians, ND Self Employment, and ND50+, all of which are being replaced by flexible New Deal by 2010. New Deal for Lone Parents (NDLP) and New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) have their own categories as their structure and client group are very different to the other New Deals. New Deal for Partners is a very small-scale delivery and has not been covered on the site to date.

So what happens to New Deal that should have been replaced by Flexible New Deal that now will be replaced by Works Programme??

I currently deliver Literacy and Numeracy on the New Deal programme. We always knew that this programme would end this October and were led to believe that it would be replaced by the Flexible New Deal. With all that out the window, what happens in the meantime BEFORE the new, all encompassing contract comes in next summer?

Tell BBC Radio 4 about New Deal and FND experience

The producers of BBC Radio 4's "File on Four" are preparing a programme about welfare reform and New Deal. They would like to hear views (good and bad) from New Deal and FND clients.

Centre visit - i2i's Manchester FND delivery

In the last of the current series of site visits, I visited i2i's Manchester FND delivery centre earlier this week. As a subcontractor to Serco, I thought it might be interesting to see how they are finding the move from delivering the Gateway stage of New Deal over to FND.

People being grumpy about New Deal

This forum contains comments and discussion moved from elsewhere in the site that is primarily complaints about New Deal. FND has its own discussion elsewhere to prevent confusion between the two. There's an article outlining the difference between FND and New Deal here if you'd like to know more. Just for the record, moving comments here doesn't imply endorsement of them.

The differences between New Deal and Flexible New Deal

Flexible New Deal is now live and delivering across half the country, but it's become evident that lots of people don't know what this means. Therefore, for your enlightenment and edification, we have put together a brief guide of the differences between the old and new support regimes for job seekers. Note that this guide does not include Support for Newly Unemployed Professionals, Programme Centres, or the Young Person's Guarantee. They all have an impact, but we're discussing New Deal in this article.

Analysis of New Deal and Programme Centre performance 2008-2009

This article builds on the analysis and explanations in Indus Delta's 2006-07 New Deal performance analysis. The figures used in this article cover every New Deal and Programme Centre contract in the country over the course of an entire year, end of March 2008 to end of March 2009. However, there are major added complexities on top of those faced in the previous analysis, that make a simple comparison table less useful.

Flexible New Deal Self Employed

Hello Everyone,

I have a few questions about the Flexible new Deal Self Employed Scheme if
anyone can help:

Will the scheme work in a similar way to the New Deal Self Employed, where
a participant will be able to 'test trade' for 6 months whilst still retaining full benefits?

Will those benefits include any housing benefit or Mortgage Interest Payments?

Is this Scheme in Operation now?

Thanks in advance

Richard

Incoming - New Deal and Programme Centre performance

As covered in this previous story, I asked the DWP for contract performance statistics on current provisions back in February. They did not respond within the legally required time, so, following a reminder request, I issued a formal request for an internal review of the lack of response to the initial request.

Frank Field article about New Deal in the Times

Here's the article

I am not usually fan of Frank Field but for once i agree with him.

How would you improve schemes to help the unemployed?

Frank has concentrated on young people though and forgot to mention older people like myself.

Analysis - New Deal performance 2008

Following a recent FoI request, the DWP have e-mailed us copies of their current performance data under the 'Flightpath' system, which tracks contract delivery for New Deal, Programme Centres, and one or two other programmes. We've published the e-mailed documents as file attachments at the bottom of this article, so you can carry out your own analysis on the source data if you wish. All UK contracts are covered by the data.

Summary of data

Watch this space

The DWP have just responded to a FoI request with some mildly interesting information, but I need some time to go through it before sending it out. It appears they were less than helpful on the time period covered, however. Anyone fancy New Deal and Programme Centre performance statistics for all providers? All well and good, but how about if we limit that to just a 3 month period?! I'll publish what I can glean from the data shortly.

Analysis - New Deal performance 2006-2007

We recently acquired the New Deal results for the first year of the new 'prime contract' regime in London and the South East. Rather than keep it to ourselves, it seemed only fair to share them more widely, along with some explanation and analysis.
