Work Choice shortlist published
Remember SDEP, which used to be IDEAS, which was designed to replace Workstep, Work Preparation and the Job Introduction Scheme? It's now Work Choice, and the PQQ results are attached to this story as a pdf.
Results of the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) Stage
Dear Provider,
The first stage of the above competition has now come to a close and all providers who submitted a PQQ, both successful and unsuccessful, have been informed of the outcome by individual letter.
Providers successful at the PQQ stage will be issued Invitation to Tender (ITT) instructions and documentation during week commencing 27th July 2009, to enable them to submit formal bids for the second stage of this competition.
A table of successful organisations and details of the Contract Package Areas they have been invited to bid for can be found in the [attached file].
During the first stage of the competition, DWP set up a Networking database to facilitate networking between prospective Prime Contractors and Delivery Partners. This database has been updated to include the contact details of all organisations who have agreed for their details to be published.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your interest in this competition.

There are certainly some surprises in this, and I am sure quite a few disappointments. The South West looks the most competitive with some strong players there.
Once again a few of the larger players appear to have missed the boat one in particular (my ex employer) is having a real bad time of it not winning much but picking up a few bits as sub contractor. not in its business plan, what goes around comes around. Read it and weep
This is an absolute disgrace. Workstep was a genuinely good programme albeit with some poor providers and terrible support from DWP. Some simple fine tuning would have easily sorted out any issues.
The DWP have thrown everything out including some fantastic provision and support - they should be ashamed of the way they have conducted this shambolic exercise. There are more shocking details still to come out regarding the way this whole matter has been conducted.
I know quite a few specialist providers have been unhappy about Work Choice for some time for various reasons. The BASE website has more on this viewpoint. I suspect there are other providers (the shortlisted ones) who are more happy, but I've not actually heard from them so far. It would be good to get some contrasting views - the weather's nice outside, but here on the internet it seems to be a perpetual drizzle.
