Confirmed: Carley Consult win Merlin tender
Submitted by Daniel on Fri, 04/09/2009 - 11:55am
Carley Consult have won the Merlin tender to develop a support and monitoring regime for prime contracting. The rumours were confirmed when the contract win was announced on the EU contracts database and Supply2.gov this morning. However, Carley Consult refused to comment when contacted.
The contract, worth roughly £290,000, places Carley in a dominant but potentially complex position in the industry. Carley already act as an individual support provider to a range of companies, including bid writing. Adding to this the role of a non-partisan mediator should be interesting.
Thanks to W2WSolutions for clarification on the story

W2W Solutions only ever publishes news from official sources - the source of the news story on our site today is the Tenders Electronic Daily and the Supply2.gov sites. The full Contract Award Notice was published this morning confirming the successful bidder.
Thanks Steph - I should have got in touch directly to discuss the source, but the combination of hearing it elsewhere as a rumour and Carley refusing to confirm or deny led me to leave it at rumour status. Upgrading now!
Thanks Daniel - there's enough gossip going on in the world without me adding to it!
I'm a big fan of snopes.com - the idea of the internet providing a way of confirming or debunking rumours, instead of just facilitating their spread. Even when something isn't immediately confirmed or denied (e.g. the FND results), gathering all the speculation in one place tends to expose just how flimsy it is, and makes it less likely that people will take it seriously. The historical lack of communication in welfare to work has made it fertile ground for gossip over the years, but I think things are becoming clearer now.
What is the Merlin Tender? And what is its importance within the Sector...?
Merlin is the DWP project to support the Code of Conduct that governs relationships between prime contractors and their subcontractors. It includes creating a new accreditation standard for organisations that play fairly, an independent ombudsman to review potential breaches of the code, and a support framework for organisations in the sector.
Well I trust the good Lord JC. to carry this out.
Does that mean he can still write the bids for competing companies?
Does that mean his bid writing prices will go up?
If I was Jim carley I'd certainly make hay while the sun shines. There won't be much chance for big consultancies like this in the future.
