Eric Pickles set to cut local authority non-jobs
Eric Pickles, Communities Secretary, has promised to end local authority appointments he has labelled ‘non-jobs’, according to the Guardian.
His plan to cutwhat he has deemed ‘ludicrous’ local authority vacancies has been welcomed by journalists and campaigners alike. Jobs such as 'communications waste strategy officer', which Mr Pickles used as an example in his speech last week, are those likely to be cut.
However, the Guardian reports that council officer job titles may be misleading. Jody Sherratt, Waste Strategy Awareness Manager for Cheshire West and Cheshire Council, holds one of these ‘non-jobs’ the Communities Secretary is targetingandtold the Guardian: “Job titles are just a name on a sheet of paper...What's important is what we do within our role, and we've achieved some big results."
