Contracts awarded for Backing Young Britain

DWP has announced that Reed in Partnership and Nord Anglia Education Partnerships Ltd have won contracts for the "Backing Young Britain" programme. First announced in July 2009, Backing Young Britain is designed "to help 18-24 year olds to find work and build their confidence and skills". The programme runs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Reed has been awarded £7.080m to deliver "non-graduate internships and work experience" with a contract running for 17 months up to the end of June 2011. They are contracted to provide two programmes: 20,000, eight to 13 week internships (client eligibility from week 26 of claiming JSA); and 5,000, two-week work experience placements (eligibility from Day 1 of claiming JSA.

The Nord Anglia contract is to deliver a mentoring programme valued at £2.55m lasting until the end of September 2011. This will provide up to 10,000 mentoring places available to young people.

Comments

I expect some companies participating in this "non graduate internships and work experience" programs will be bunging the 18-24 year olds a few quid on the QT.
