Reshuffles - Talent, Shaw Trust, Peopleserve

I've been at the BASE conference this week. Dan Finn was one of the presenters, talking about how contracting reform has worked out in other countries. For people within the industry, it's probably not a surprising finding that the first years of a new system are always turbulent times, with provider fortunes rising and falling rapidly as the market shakes out. In the UK's case, it seems that this is just as true of the industry's staff, judging by the continuing move-rounds.

  • Talent - Following the recent departure of Mukesh Oza (Business Development Manager) and Jonathan Baldrey (Founder) from Talent, Sarah Corrigan (Ops Director) has followed Mukesh to Serco's youth learning division. Chris Paterson is the new Operations Director, and George Selmer has taken over as Business Development Manager
  • Shaw Trust - Sally Burton is the new head of the organisation. With a background in social services and health, and the previous role of head of Solihull NHS Care Trust, it's clear that Shaw Trust are maintaining a focus on health and disability issues
  • PeopleServe - Andy Chaplin, formerly Divisional CEO of Emerging Markets at A4e, is the new Managing Director for PeopleServe in the UK

Edit 11/9 - I've rewritten the article to take account of further appointments. Talent have a full story up here which makes clear that they haven't been swallowed up by their recent purchaser and are still a live, functioning company. PeopleServe on their part sent the following press release:

PeopleServe has appointed Andy Chaplin as its new Managing Director United Kingdom, reporting directly to the senior management team at ResCare Inc.

Andy will join at the end of September where he will be responsible for PeopleServe’s employment and training operations across the UK, as well as helping to define and lead the company’s expansion of its welfare to work programmes and service offering.

Andy joins from A4e where he was Divisional CEO of Emerging Markets responsible for creating and developing services in new markets to complement and enhance A4e’s core welfare-to-work business.

Prior to joining A4e, Andy worked for over 20 years at Barclay’s, where he held various senior client facing and strategic roles before taking up the reins of a social housing-led financial inclusion programme for London.

Commenting on his new role Andy said “It is an exciting time for PeopleServe as it develops its nationwide presence and moves into new markets. I am looking forward to working with the team to maintain the company’s growth by continuing to deliver successful outcomes for the customers we serve.”

Jesica Lindgren, Vice President, International Operations, ResCare Inc. said “Andy has an impressive background with a strong track record of growing teams and successful operations. Under his leadership we look forward to PeopleServe’s ongoing commitment to offering innovative and flexible solutions tailored to our customer needs.”

Any other big switchrounds in the works that anyone knows of? And can talk about without causing unfortunateness, of course.

Ohhh given that information

Shaw sounds like the best place for me to put a few irons into the fire.

The talent story sounds like damage limitation - i heard that theyve lost local authority contracts since the moves.
Also makes you wonder what Serco are planning in youth learning after bagging mukesh + sarah... is the lsc's imminent break-up a coincidence?

I think the specific issue with Talent is that quite a few people assumed they'd been absorbed by Calder in the same way as Biscom or some of the Newcastle College companies.

LSC move has been on the cards since last year

Newcastle college laid off 60 people

Andy Chaplin left PeopleServe after a week and a half in charge!
