Tony Wilson, the Director of Policy at Inclusion, presented at the Homeless Link conference on 28 March that was on homelessness and employment. The presentation considered implications for the homeless and those supporting them of the overall labour market and government policy contexts.
Chief Executive of Mind resigns from Work Capability Assessment scrutiny panel
This week, Paul Farmer, the Chief Executive of Mind, resigned from his role on the Work Capability Assessment scrutiny panel. Paul Farmer argues that his position became untenable as he felt that the panel's assessments were damaging to the people that Mind supports. He said that ministers had failed to address his concerns.

New work experience charter backed by Employment Minister
Chris Grayling, the Minister for Employment, is urging employers to sign up to the work experience charter that has recently been produced by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and Jobcentre Plus.

New minimum 12 month duration for all Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships will last for a minimum of 12 months, guaranteeing improvements in training and workplace learning, Skills Minister, John Hayes, announced on 1 April.

Large companies to proactively support young people into employment
Large companies have formed the '16-24 Alliance' to support unemployed young people to be trained into 1,000s of jobs. The alliance was launched on 1 April, and among its founders are Morrisons, Barclays, EON and Phones 4U. They will work with specialist charities that offer training linked to the performance levels of jobs in the companies.

The Youth Contract opens for business on 2 April. Nearly half a million young people are set to benefit, the government says, as £1 billion becomes available to get them into new jobs or training.

It is essential that you have a minimum of 2 years experience in an advice and guidance, sales/recruitment or employer engagement role, and that you are able to demonstrate successful achievements in a target driven environment for at least 3 years. You will be outgoing, approachable and confident. An Enhanced CRB check will be required to be undertaken for this role.
Salary range: £24,000 – £28,000 p.a. dependent upon experience.
