Whistleblower accuses A4e of systemic misuse of public money

The former chief auditor of A4e, Eddie Hutchinson, has reported that unethical behaviour led to a culture of fraud at A4e, according to the Indedendent. When concerns were raised about A4e’s wrong-doing linked to major government contracts, little was done to address the widespread mismanagement of taxpayer’s money and inadequate risk management.

124,000 single parents moved onto JSA

From 21 May, 124,000 single parents with children aged five or six will move onto Jobseeker’s Allowance, having been given eight weeks notice. Previously lone parents were moved from Income Support to Jobseeker’s Allowance when their youngest child was aged seven.

Jobseekers to deliver unpaid patient care in hospitals

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust is planning to offer work experience to dozens of unpaid jobseekers to deliver care for patients in three hospitals. These hospitals will be City Hospital in Birmingham, Sandwell Hospital and Rowley Regis Hospital.

Claimants addicted to drugs and alcohol refusing treatment may have benefits cut

People on drugs and alcohol may have their benefits cut if they refuse treatment from October 2013 when Universal Credit is introduced. This new conditionality will be part of the claimant commitment document that claimants will be required to sign to receive Universal Credit, obliging them to look for work in exchange for government support as they do so.
