It appears once again IDS has been caught out,his "I believe" syndrome that all is fine is catching up with him. While this is not new,it appears that the Trade body of the W2W industry has been thrown under the Bus(Guardian 14 March) there is also the matter of an unreleased that is critical of the WP and how effective it really is...So pucker up ERSA.

To be fair, the article does not single out Welfare to Work schemes as such and does criticise Atos, G4S and Serco for the various negative issues surrounding major Government funded contracts. However, the argument that "commercial confidentiality" is justification for not making private sector contractors accountable to the National Audit Office is clearly wrong, given the size and scope of what has been contracted out.
Some may be interested in the following oral answer given by Simon Hughes as a Minister in the Justice Department responsible for FOI
Lindsay Roy:
What benefits have accrued to the Government and citizens from the implementation of the Act, and when does the Minister plan to extend its scope further?
Simon Hughes:
We intend to extend it further as soon as is practical. One specific issue that I hope will be of interest to the hon. Gentleman—as it is to colleagues of his, including those who have come to see me about it—is that we intend to publish a revised code of practice to make sure that private companies that carry out public functions have freedom of information requirements in their contracts and go further than that. We hope that that will be in place by the end of this year.
