Work Choice

Disabled peple and "Welfare to Work"

I have been invited by a major magazine to write an article exploring the quality of service provided to disabled people accessing welfare to work programmes. I would therefore like to interview both professionals and service users willing to tell me about their experiences.

Work Choice

I understand that Work choice was introduced in October 2010 to help the unemployed with disabilities to gain employment.

Can anyone tell me what actially happens on these schemes i.e is there interview help / work experience and are the sessions one to one or are they group sessions ? How often are clients expected to attend the sessions ?

The Direct-Gov website only gives brief information.

Many thanks

work choice. voluntary employment programme??

I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are about the so called 'Voluntary' part of the Workchoice programme.
Whats voluntary about it if people are only given a choice of one provider, the client is told they HAVE to use workchoice? and then told that current (none workchoice) providers are not allowed to support them?

TUPE

Well here we have it my friends. The political show down has upturned the result that we all felt would be inevitable - Shaw Trust, major victor in the bid farce.

I have some grave concerns in respect of some of my staff having to TUPE across to Shaw Trust. I have been informed that some Shaw staff currently support up to 100 clients and this unbelievably does happen. There terms as mentioned before in this forum will not be as fair or favourable as LA's and one Shaw staff member stated "they really want their moneys worth out of you".

What's up with Work Choice?

A large number of providers are still hanging-on for the announcement of preferred bidders for Work Choice. People on the inside track say it's "imminent". But that was yesterday morning. So what's up DWP?

Work Choice preferred bidders delayed ... now it's official

Almost a week after it was due to announce results of the Work Choice bidding, DWP posted a "we regret" notice on their website.

Remember SDEP, which used to be IDEAS, which was designed to replace Workstep, Work Preparation and the Job Introduction Scheme? It's now Work Choice, and the PQQ results are attached to this story as a pdf.
