SfA contracts finishing March 2011

Does anyone have any idea what will happen to funding for basic skills training for unemployed people after March 2011?

Skills Funding Agency contracts expire on 31st March and there is no sign of a replacement or extension. Many employees within several large training providers are currently looking at redundancy situations. There may be work for them when the Work Programme contracts are awarded but there will be nothing to fill the gap between March and WP starting.

Contracts awarded for Backing Young Britain

DWP has announced that Reed in Partnership and Nord Anglia Education Partnerships Ltd have won contracts for the "Backing Young Britain" programme. First announced in July 2009, Backing Young Britain is designed "to help 18-24 year olds to find work and build their confidence and skills". The programme runs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Australia news - Disability Employment Service results

The Australian government has released details of contract awards for its Disability Employment Services programmes, running from 2010 to 2012. At first glance, the following points emerge:

  • Reed and A4e haven't won anything in this round, although they have other delivery in Australia
  • The only other UK-based firm that popped up was Dering, which won nationwide Workplace Modification for deaf people, and Disability Employment Network in two areas
  • Sarina Russo Job Access and Max Employment both won a range of contracts
