'Back to Work' report explores colleges' role in supporting sustainable jobs

Back to Work: Colleges Supporting Sustainable Jobs, released on Monday (23 January 2012), has found that over 1,000 unemployed people are supported through training provided by colleges each year. Ninety-five per cent of colleges offer support for the unemployed and 64% have improved provision to meet needs of jobseekers.

The research was undertaken by the Association of Colleges in November 2011. The report follows the release of unemployment statistics last week revealing that 2.6 million are unemployed. Half of colleges in the report felt that with the government having adjusted funding rules, this would negatively impact on colleges' provision for unemployed people.
