ACEVO joint conference with the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion on youth unemployment

On 6th February ACEVO will be holding a joint conference with the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion on youth unemployment. Rt. Hon. David Miliband MP is confirmed to give the morning keynote address and will launch the report from ACEVO’s commission on youth unemployment. Over the last four months Miliband has chaired the commission as it has gathered evidence from ACEVO’s 2,000 members and a wide range of experts and other groups from the public, private and third sectors.

The conference will feature presentations from several of the commissioners involved in the report, including, Katherine Kerswell (CEO, Kent County Council), Prof. Paul Gregg (Bristol University) and Baroness Stedman-Scott (CEO of the charity Tomorrow’s People). Other speakers contributing on the day include representatives from the Trade Unions Congress, The Prince’s Trust, The Work Foundation and the Centre for Cities.

The conference will clarify the important policy questions around the current levels of youth unemployment and offer the insights of those working with young unemployed people to highlight the challenges of implementation in practice. Two sessions will consider how the Government’s Youth Contract will work in practice and to what extent Community Budgets may improve the local coordination of work with young people not in education, employment, or training.

The event will run from 09.00-14.30 and is made possible by the kind sponsorship of Deloitte LLP. The ACEVO commission’s report on youth unemployment will be available on the day. For further details please see: http://www.acevo.org.uk/youthunemploymentconf
