Help finding work
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 17/02/2009 - 12:19am
I would like some information on how to find work - I have been unemployed for nearly 2 years and am struggling in finding employment. I have been working with an Employment Officer on a Workstep Programme, but that has ended but if I find employment I can contact them again for in-work support because I feel that I need some support in employment.
Hear from you.
Regards,
Carole

Hi Carole
I can imagine that you are buried beneath the quagmire of the various programmes that are available to you and not knowing about your personal circumstances means it can be difficult to advise you on the best course of action to take.
Clearly you have taken advantage of a local 'Work Step' provider and this I hope was useful in supplying you with some of the information/experience that you need to assist you in finding employment. However, I would advise you to really identify what barriers you are facing to getting back into the workplace and how you can equip yourself to break them.
There are many providers and organisations that may be able to help you and my organisation like many others I am sure may be able to discuss some of these options without you being officially referred to them as is often the case. My staff like most of their colleagues in the industry are committed to helping individual back into work and I am sure that any local provider will offer you advice and point you in the right direction.
I wish you well and hope you find success very soon! Regards
Hi
I am part of a team running a residential community facility that offers employability training in the many and varied employment sectors run at the centre. This can be anything from housekeeping to outdoor activity instruction.
The aim of work placement and work experience with us is to get a real insight into the job you want to do, to gain up to date references and to gain qualifications and certificates that industry may ask for.
I am a work place job coach and mentor my role is to coach trainees to perform the tasks needed in the work role and to help with their motivation and self confidence to apply for positions. many of our clients have given up.
We believe it is the work based activity and live experience that brings that confidence back.
The second part of the support is to market our working trainees to advertising employers and to widen their horizons of our clients regarding the work options they have been considering and challenge barriers like the distance they will travel for those work options. Hours they will work....
The most important part for us regarding the experience and training being positive and leading to real work is about gettng the job right, it is about you understanding you and the personal qualities you have to offer.
When you were with the Work Step provider what did you find out about you and the main things that prevent you starting work ?
What are you looking for ?
What have you done previously ?
